Welcome to Super Happy Art Class!

I hope you enjoy looking at the wonderful artwork from Duchesne Academy Lower School. Lower School consists of girls, grades pre-k through fourth. Unfortunately I have not kept record of all the successful projects, but here is a good sampling. Check out the artwork by grade level, but realize that each activity can be used for multi-grades. flower still life, tempera, watercolor wash

First grade made these almost fool-proof flower still lifes. I gave them a template for the vase, they traced the template on whatever paper they wanted and cut it out. they learned about water color washes which they added to the whole background. After it dried they glued the vase at the bottom. They looked at a variety of still lifes from the Dutch masters, Van Gogh, and Redon. We discussed overlapping and filling the page. They practiced making flowers on another sheet before jumping in. They painted the flowers first, overlapping them. Lastly they added the greenery. They were beautiful viewers were amazed.
